Visa Requirements

All foreign students from non-EU countries are required to meet their own living costs when studying in Germany. In order to enter Germany, non-EU students also need a valid visa. This can only be issued once the student has deposited a specified amount of money (minimum: 11,208 Euro for one year, with 934 Euro for one month) in a German bank account and blocked this sum with the Federal Republic of Germany as beneficiary.

Residence permit and work permit
International students of TH Rosenheim can obtain legally binding information regarding residence permits and work permits from the local municipal immigration office ("Ausländerbehörde"). Please see the contact for your city below.

IMPORTANT! Please bear in mind that any change to your student status may affect your residence permit. The student residence permit is issued for a specific university and course of study.

If you currently hold a valid student residence permit, obtained for studying at another German university, and you plan to continue your studies at TH Rosenheim you will need to get in touch with the Immigration Office (at your place of residence) first.

You will need to open up a bank account (Girokonto) once you have arrived in Germany to access your blocked account. 

To open a bank account, you usually have to submit the following documents:

• a valid passport,
• a residence permit,
• a certificate of enrolment

You settle your payment obligations (e.g. rent, health insurance or electricity and telephone bills) via a current account by setting up a "standing order" (Dauerauftrag) or by "direct debit"(Lastschrifteinzug). You instruct one-off payments by means of a "bank transfer" (Überweisung) from your current account to a recipient account.

Within the first week of arriving in Germany, international students who are EU citizens must register their place of residence at the residents' registration office ("Bürgeramt"). 

In order to register, please take the following documents with you:

• Passport
• Matriculation certificate
• Proof of health insurance
• Proof of secure means of subsistence of approx. € 934 per month, e.g. a savings book for a notice savings account or a blocked account
• Rental agreement for your room or flat (stating details of your residence)

You must also inform the residents' registration office ("Bürgeramt") if your address changes during your stay in Germany.

• evidence of a place of study
• evidence of your special skills and knowledge (e.g. language certificates, school reports)
• evidence of your means of subsistence (e.g., proof of income, rental agreement, letter of commitment, blocked account)
• evidence of your health insurance,
• evidence of your employment, if available
• if you have not yet reached the age of majority (18): consent of legal guardians (e.g. parents) to stay in Germany
